2017 Volnay 1. Cru Les Chevrets Henri Boillot

Medium deep crimson colour. Sombre and slightly savoury fruit on the nose. Soon cheers up in the glass, with a real vibrancy. The structure imposes a little, but I expect more tannins at this end of Volnay. I like the power at the finish.

The 2017 Volnay Les Chevrets 1er Cru has an open-knit, well-defined bouquet of brambly red berry fruit and discreet wilted rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, quite grippy and a little drier than its peers, with a slightly bitter, granular finish. It meliorates in the glass and leaves a pleasant spicy aftertaste. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

(from 25+ year old vines). An elegant, airy and cool nose is also attractively perfumed and is composed of essence of red cherry, lavender and soft spice aromas. The elegant, even lilting middle weight flavors evidence notably more minerality on the wonderfully textured, refined and well-balanced finale. This is a lovely Chevrets fashioned in a style that should permit reasonably early accessibility. 91/2023+

Wafting from the glass with aromas of small red berries, raw cocoa and rose petal, the 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets is medium to full-bodied, melting and satiny, with a gourmand core of fleshy and succulent tannins that largely conceals its structuring tannins, balanced by an animating line of acidity.
