2016 Vosne Romanée 1. Cru Magnum Les Suchots Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is one of the highlights of the range this year, offering up a complex bouquet of rose petal, Asian spices, wild berries and sapid bass notes of grilled game bird and smoke. On the palate, it's full- bodied, ample and layered, with satiny structuring tannins, an intensely concentrated core of fruit, and a long, resonant finish. This is a powerful, complete and tight-knit Suchots that will really reward bottle age. 2026 - 2050

A penetratingly floral, Asian-style tea and spice-suffused nose is composed by notes of black cherry that are trimmed in just enough wood to warrant mentioning. The highly refined and obviously concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess plenty of mid-palate fat that enrobes the markedly firm supporting tannins on the well-balanced and satisfyingly long finish. This isn't quite as complex as the Reignots but it's more seductive. 2034+

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has an intriguing, almost peaty-like bouquet with the 100% stem addition perhaps not quite as subsumed as the Les Chaumes. The palate is well balanced with a slither of marmalade on the entry. Vibrant and fresh with edgy and chalky tannin that dovetail into a brine- tinged finish. Very fine, although I might just have a preference for the Les Chaumes.
