Crémant de Limoux Sélection Brut Domaine Collin

The Collin family has been producing Champagne for generations, but when Philippe Collin wanted to start his own domaine, he soon found out that the prices for buying land in Champagne were astronomical. With his backpack full of technical expertise and understanding of the terroir, he chose to settle down in Limoux. The land cost only a fraction of the price, and Philippe soon found out that Limoux had something special - as the critics agree. Limoux is the coldest area in Languedoc, and is located just a few hours' drive from the Mediterranean. The area has been known for sparkling wines since 1531. Philippe Collin focuses on quality rather than quantity, which is why this Crémant de Limoux is made in the same way as Champagne. With Cuvée Sélection, Philippe Collin wanted to honour his roots in Champagne. Instead of local grape varieties, he has used the traditional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay Champagne grapes. The wine has a nice crystal clear light yellow colour, an elegant bouquet of citrus and red apples with hints of white flowers. A Pinot Noir dominated crémant with delicious precise acidity, a nice structure and a long refreshing aftertaste with mineral notes. Don't be put off by the label - this is a beautifully executed top-value crémant from a man with champagne in his veins!
