2012 Twelftree Greenock-Ebenezer Grenache-Mataro Barossa

This wine is made from Grenache and Mataro (mostly known as Mouvedre) grapes. The Grenache grapes come from Gomersal, a steep and rocky vineyard in Barossa and were originally intended for one of the wines in the Twelftree range, but Michael was inspired to use some of these grapes for this blend. He therefore stored them for a little longer. The Mataro grapes come from young vines in Greenock and Ebenezer, Barossa and aged in French oak barrels for 11 months. Together these two components make a fantastic wine that is of course powerful in its Australian expression, but at the same time a very easy drinking and elegant wine that exudes mint, cedar, liquorice, cherries and fresh plums.
