2012 Craggy Range Chardonnay Kidnappers Vd Hawkes Bay

Kidnappers Vineyard is located on Cape Kidnappers at Hawkes Bay. Cape Kidnappers is named after an incident in 1769 when an interpreter from Captain Cook's crew was kidnapped by Maoris. Craggy Range has selected a cool vineyard here, which is strongly influenced by the sea breezes. This makes it possible to produce Chardonnay with a nerve and elegance that is quite unheard of in overseas wine countries. This wine is mainly hand-harvested and includes approx. 70% whole clusters in the press, followed by fermentation in a mix of oak and open steel tanks before final barrel ageing in French oak barrels. The aroma offers intense notes of citrus, flowers and minerals. The flavour is crackling intense and concentrated with fine notes of citrus and a touch of peach. The aftertaste is intense and persistent.
