Pinot Noir - Marlborough

The grapes for Greywacke wines come from Wairau and Southern Plains, two of the Marlborough district's best sub-regions. Here, Kevin Judd has signed long-term contracts with a small handful of the best winemakers, who produce grapes in exactly the style and quality he seeks. For Kevin Judd, it is essential that the grapes are as aromatic as possible and that they have a singing fresh acidity to balance the fruit. The grapes for Greywacke Pinot Noir are hand-harvested on the Yarrum vineyard in Southern Valleys. Kevin Judd takes a scientific approach, using five different Pinot Noir clones, which he harvests and vinifies separately. The wine is fermented on the wild yeast and aged in French oak barrels, of which about 35% are new. The wine has an engaging bouquet of sweet cherry and rose. The silky, refined berry flavour is reminiscent of good Burgundy.

Pure, vibrant Pinot Noir with dark berry/cherry and spice flavours. Tangy, vibrant wine with energy and cellaring potential although it is certainly accessible now.

Lovely wine here with a raspberry, ripe strawberry, smoky oak character with hints of beef. Some caramel. Full body, with pure fruit and polished velvety tannins. Intense fruit finish, yet acidity gives it tension and structure. Better in 2014.

Et brag af en Pinot Noir med tobak og staldduft i næsen, trøffel, peber og brombær i munden og en lang intensiv eftersmag. Testens bedste vin.

90 point

Pale ruby- purple in color, the 2010 Pinot Noir shows vibrant red cherry and red raspberry notes with hints of cinnamon stick, cloves and tree bark. Medium to full-bodied, it is quite elegant and well poised in the mouth, with a low to medium level of fine tannins, a crisp acid backbone and a long finish. Drink it now to 2016.

Bright full red. Aromas of black cherry, rooty underbrush and smoky minerality. Smooth and glyceral but at the same time juicy and perfumed, offering lovely concentration to the complex, well-delineated flavors of raspberry, spices, sassafras and underbrush. Best today on the sweet, smoky, very long finish, which shows strong saline soil tones, sappy red fruit notes, fine-grained tannins and excellent grip. Drink or hold.

Vinavisen
