2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1. Cru Les Perrieres Domaine Jacques Carillon

Full mid straw colour, another heavyweight on the nose with some opulent ripe notes, but the palate is quite well balanced, with some acidity and attractive oak. Quite long finish.

Perrières is a mid-slope parcel in Puligny with, as its name suggests, a lot of stones in the soil. This is one of the sappiest and most mineral of Jacques Carillon's wines in 2015, with chiselled acidity, some stone fruit sweetness and a pithy, citrus-edged finish. 2018-23 .

Here the expressive nose is similar to that of the Champs Canet but with more prominent citrus elements. The sleeker if slightly less voluminous and rich medium weight flavors exhibit more obvious minerality on the relatively precise, lingering and well-balanced finale.

Crushed rocks, lemon zest and peach - crisp and focused with a deep core of minerality and acidity. Gourmand wine: the rich, glossy weight balanced by stony tension.

The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières has an attractive lemon curd-scented bouquet with fine delineation, touches of lime and chalk developing with time. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry with touch of orange rind and spice, showing some depth and girth towards the finish (common in 2015), but maintaining freshness throughout. It will need a couple of years in bottle. It is a decent les Perrières but it didn't quite deliver the razor-sharp edginess or the mineral heart that I look for in the best wines from this vineyard. Maybe that will develop by the time it is bottled?

The 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1Er Cru les Perrieres is showing very well, offering up a complex bouquet of crushed rocks, lemon zest and white peach. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and quite generous on the attack, but remains crisp and nicely focused, its ample frame underpinned by bright acidity and chalky extract. 2019 - 2030 .

More complex on the nose than the Champs Canet, offering scents of orange, smoke and minerals. Fat, saline and rather reticent in the middle palate, showing a slightly exotic banana note. Less open than the Champs Canet but also more concentrated and extract-rich. Finishes with a distinct tannic impression. The yield here was 30 hectoliters per hectare, owing to smaller grapes. At this point in our tasting, Carillon noted that he normally enjoys drinking his premier crus after eight to ten years, but he'll probably drink the 2015s two or three years earlier than that.
