2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1. Cru Les Perrieres Domaine Jacques Carillon

It requires some aggressive swirling but here the all but inexpressive nose is notably more floral in character with its combination of rose petal, lilac and honeysuckle scents that are nuanced by hints of spice, citrus and white orchard fruit. There is also more evident minerality present on the beautifully delineated flavors that don't lack for richness thanks to the abundant dry extract that also helps to buffer the firm acid spine on the angular finish. This is textbook Perrières that's going to need plenty of time.

The 2013 Puligny- Montrachet 1er Cru les Perrières has a similar bouquet to the Champs- Canet at this early juncture - just a hint of almond loitering in the background behind that mineral facade. The palate is tensile on the entry with plenty of Granny Smith apple, fresh pear and nettle notes. I like the acidity here - lovely poise and harmony, and yet winding everything back in towards the finish, suggesting that this will be a long-term proposition.

Pale yellow. Expressive aromas of orange zest, flowers and crushed stone. At once dense and juicy, showing terrific energy and cut to the flavors of soft citrus fruits and spices. Finishes long and minerally, with crushed-rock energy giving it lovely lift and a light touch. Carillon predicts that this wine will shut down in the next six months or so.
