2012 Quinta do Vallado Adelaide Vintage Port i Gaverør

"As with the producer's delightful 2011, this is an old vines field blend (70%) and Touriga Nacional (30%), aged only in tank - no oak at all. The grapes were sourced from both estate vineyards and vineyards controlled by Quinta do Vallado in Rio Torto. It was aged for 20 months in stainless steel and bottled in July, 2014. People will (correctly) tell you that 2012 is not as good a vintage as 2011, but this seems to hold up well in its youth, granted that I do not have them side-by-side. I'd give the edge to the 2011 for being a bit more tightly wound. Still, with the same, beautiful purity of sappy fruit, this is an enticing and hedonistic mouthful with intense flavor and a bright, crisp feel. That lifted, crisp demeanor gives perfect support to the flavorful fruit. This is not only hard to resist, but graceful and focused. It should continue to develop and hold well. It benefits from being drunk in the low 60sF. This should age decently - we'll see how we're doing if it and I get there - but it will certainly be accessible young. Drink 2018-2045.

A luscious, floral style, with lively cherry, plum and raspberry flavors that feature some minty notes. Cocoa powder, spice and cream details linger on the powerful finish. Best from 2020 through 2040.-K.M.
