2017 La Umbra Cabernet Sauvignon The Iconic Estate

Halewood Wines started as a collaboration between English importer John Halewood and Romanian Dan Muntean. At first they bought grapes from local farmers, but made the wine themselves. But here 10 years after its foundation, Halewood Wines has grown to be one of the largest vineyard owners in Romania with over 350 hectares in Transylvania. In 2019, Alexandrion Group, one of the leading wine companies in Romania, acquired Halewood. It also owns vineyards in Dealu Mare south of Transylvania, as well as vineyards out to the Black Sea. Halewood is highly regarded in Romania, where it sells under several labels, including the prestige wine Principele in collaboration with Prince Radu of Romania. La Umbra is Halewood's value-for-money brand. The ambition is to make wines from all regions of the country that are typical of the areas in question, for example, Pinot Noir from the Dealu Mare area on the border with Transylvania. All grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon are hand-harvested, selected and fermented and then aged in steel tanks. A ripe and juicy Cabernet Sauvignon with blackcurrant and soft spicy notes. Great with a steak.
