2016 Vieux Château Certan Pomerol

Vieux Château Certan is one of the oldest wine châteaux in Pomerol, dating back to the 1500s when the Demay family arrived from Scotland. The château appeared on Belleyme's 1785 map under the name "Sertan". In 1858, Charles de Bousquet became the owner of the chateau and it was he who constructed the building that adorns the fields today. The wine merchant Georges Thienpont bought the château in 1924, and this was the beginning of the new era that later gave Vieux Château Certan cult status. The chateau consists of 14 hectares of vineyards, all planted on a single block and divided into 23 plots, all vinified separately according to their terroir. The vines are 50 years old on average and all grapes are hand-harvested. The wine shows uncanny concentration and complexity and undoubtedly has 1. Cru Classé quality. Production is minimal and the wine has become an international investment with one of the tightest allocations in all of Bordeaux. Huge wine!
