2016 Grain de Vignes Muscat de Rivesaltes Domaine Lafage

Muscat de Rivesaltes is France's largest district for fortified wines (in French Vin Doux Naturel). Like port, the wine is made by adding alcohol to the fermenting wine, which kills the yeast before it has converted all the sugar into alcohol. The result is a sweet or sweetish wine with an alcoholic strength of around 15%. The hand-harvested grapes for Grain de Vignes come from over 60-year-old and very low yielding vines growing on terraces at an altitude of 300 metres. The wine has an intense clean aroma of fresh Muscat grapes combined with pear, apricot and lychee. The wine is aromatic and full-bodied in the mouth with a fantastic balance between sweetness and acidity Nice citrus notes give the sensation of freshness.
