2016 Eiswein Transylvanien Liliac & Kracher 37,5cl

Due to climate change, Gerhard Kracher has noticed that it has become increasingly difficult to make icewine in Burgenland. So he and friend and winemaker Rudolf Krizan decided to make icewine together in Transylvania, Romania. Transylvania has always been known for legendary myths but is also home to some really good wines. The area's unique terroir is perfect for icewine with temperatures often dropping below minus 10 in winter. A blend of traditional Austrian and Romanian grapes was harvested by hand in December at minus 12 degrees and pressed while still frozen. The ultra concentrated must was fermented in steel tanks and then aged for 9 months on the lees. Together Gerhard and Rudolf have created a unique, fruity, elegant, expressive and altogether excellent icewine.
