2016 Château Poujeaux Cru Bourgeois Moulis

None of the châteaux in the municipality of Moulis were classified Cru Classé in the 1855 classification of Médoc châteaux, but today two of the châteaux in the municipality would be at least fifth or fourth growth Classé. Here you think of Château Chasse-Spleen and Château Poujeaux, both of which have a long, long history of delivering absolute top class, even in difficult vintages. Château Poujeaux is owned by Francois Theil, who likes to proclaim that the vineyards of his château have the same terroir (growing conditions) as Lafite-Rothschild and Château Latour. Monsieur Theil also likes to talk about his philosophy, which is that a winemaker is just a humble mediator of the wine's journey from vine to bottle, and that one should manipulate it as little as possible along the way. The wine from Château Poujeaux is characterised by a very dark, fruit-saturated and full-bodied style, which can easily be confused with Pomerol. At the same time, the wine possesses excellent ageing qualities.
