2016 Château Pape Clément Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan
Château Pape Clément Rouge Grand Cru Classé
Château Pape Clément is one of the most interesting and best castles in the area. The building dates back to 1299 when it was in the possession of Archbishop Bertrand de Goth. Bertrand de Goth was later proclaimed pope under the name Clément V, hence the name of the castle.
From around 1986, the castle has been in the fast lane, and has delivered wines that in several vintages can almost measure up to the 1. Cru Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion.
From 2000, they have gone to extremes to achieve the ultimate quality, including having no fewer than 120 employees to quality control the harvested grapes!
The chateau is owned by the famous Bernard Magrez, who owns several prominent châteaux in Bordeaux.
The wine is deep and dark, offering incredible concentration and complexity with age. This is a wine you don't need to be in a hurry to drink.
