2016 Aile d´Argent Bordeaux Blanc Château Mouton Rothschild

Mouton Rothschild is one of the most legendary châteaux in Bordeaux. Château Mouton Rotschild Premier Grand Cru Classé (since 1973) is known for its modern style. The wine has an unparalleled ability to combine finesse with power and early approachability with tremendous ageing potential. Every wine lover's dream and an immensely sought-after collector's item. In addition, the château has achieved cult status for its joint ventures with other producers around the world, just as the annually changing artists' labels attract a lot of attention. The château has been in the Rothschild family since 1853. Most recently under the leadership of the characterful Madame Philippine de Rothschild. Mouton Rothschild is synonymous with big red wines, but in the early 1980s, Philippine decided to revive the tradition of white wines in the Médoc by planting a few hectares of white grape varieties. On a gravelly sandy soil Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris (56%), Semillon (43%) and Muscadelle (1%) were planted. 50% of the wine is aged in new oak barrels and the result is a full-bodied, complex and elegant white wine. The wine is now very sought after but produced only in very limited quantities. Philippine de Rothschild tells the story here behind the name "Aile d'Argent" in her own words: "Aile d'Argent... Two unusual words that floated up from the depths of time, a link between the past and present, between my father Baron Philippe de Rothschild and myself. When I was a little girl, my father made up a fairy tale for me, the hero of which was a magic teapot. Its incredible adventures enchanted me and beguiled my childhood. The teapot was called Aile d'Argent, Silver Wing." When World War II broke out, Philippine's father was arrested. In prison, he wrote down on paper the fairy tale he had invented for her. He called it "Aile d'Argent la Magique". The fairy tale was published by Gallimard in 1947.
