    Riesling Rothenberg Reserve

    The Rothenberg vineyard is a delimited part of the Loibenberg vineyard in Wachau. The vineyard is situated on one of the steep slopes of Loibenberg above the Danube. Over 50-year-old Riesling vines grow on this particular vineyard. The small, concentrated hand-harvested grapes are fermented with natural wild yeast before the wine is aged for 7 months on the lees for additional complexity. The result is a deep yellow wine with green reflections and a classic Riesling aroma of peach, apricot, melon and white flowers. A lively, vibrant flavour with beautiful clean notes of yellow stone fruit, great complexity and nice balance. A full-bodied, slightly sweet Riesling with great class.

    More straightforward and obvious fruit compared with the Loibenberg 2014. And much richer, sweeter tasting, on the palate. So different from the Loibenberg 2014. Much riper, and at the moment the fruit sweetness and acidity seem to be not fully integrated. Peachy finish. (JH).

    This was bottled with around 15 grams of residual sugar, but while that's roughly twice what was left behind in this year's Kellerberg, the effect is equally supportive and almost as discreet. Prominently pit-tinged white peach supplies a succulent, generously juicy but also glycerol-slicked midpalate. Hints of grapefruit peel and toasted pecan add further piquancy to a satisfyingly sustained finish.
