    Riesling Pittermännchen Trocken Grosses Gewäch

    Schäfer's famous Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) vineyard was seabed 360 million years ago and its terroir consists of disintegrated slate, silica and lots of quartz. All grapes are hand-harvested and the wine is aged for 14 months in the traditional, large wooden barrels. The impressive straw golden wine with crystal reflexes has a great bouquet with hints of tropical fruit like pineapple, citrus and lime, the very complex flavour has tonnes of energy, freshness and almost an explosion of minerality. A masterpiece!

    The 2015 Pittermännchen Riesling GG opens with a clear, intense, spicy/mineral and herbal bouquet with ripe, well concentrated fruit aromas typical for the weathered Tonschiefer soils of this cru. The slate flavors are lovely, clear and precise here, giving this wine an almost aristocratic attitude. Round, yet pure, piquant and highly elegant on the palate, this is an intense, complex and very persistent Pittermännchen with a lot of juice, dissolved salt and vitalizing acidity. This is a first class dry Riesling from the lower part of the Nahe.
