2015 Chacra Lunita Pinot Noir Patagonia

This wine is the newest addition to the Bodega Chacra family. A very special and long awaited wine for Piero Incisa della Rocchetta. The grapes come from the tiny Lunita vineyard of 1.5 hectares with very old ungrafted vines, which it has taken Piero over 13 years to care for and bring back to life. The vineyard is located in the middle part of the valley, where the soil has equal parts of limestone, sand, pebbles and clay. In previous years, these grapes were included in Barda because the vines had not quite reached their optimal balance. But slowly the potential of the grapes was revealed and Piero decided that their high quality deserved their very own wine and so the first vintage of Chacra Lunita became a reality in 2015. The grapes are picked early in the morning and the whole clusters are gently fermented in an open cement tank. The grapes are gently macerated and the final wine is extremely elegant and ethereal and in no way powerful or extracted. Only 50% of the wine is gently aged in used French oak barrels so as not to mask the wine's unique fruit and elegance.
