2015 Casas del Bosque Riesling Late Harvest 37,5cl

On the western edge of Casablanca valley, where there are almost daily morning/midday fog, lies a vineyard almost as if it were forgotten. The grapes still hang on the vines, waiting for the last rays of autumn sun, and are slowly transformed by Botrytis Cinerea - the noble rot slowly concentrates the aromas and sugars of the grapes into a drink of the gods, just as it does with the famous sweet Sauternes wines of Bordeaux. The terroir of the vineyard, great patience and a skilled winemaker deliver one of the finest and most elegant Late Harvest wines from Chile. 100% of the Riesling grapes for this wine are transformed by noble rot. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted grape by grape before the must is transferred by gravity to French 5-year-old oak barrels where it ferments slowly for 5 weeks. The wine is then transferred to 2-year-old French oak barrels where it is aged for 12 months before bottling. The production is very limited and the wine can only be made in some vintages. The complex wine has a light golden colour and a seductive aroma of mandarin, crème brûlée and apricot. The flavour is full of rich notes of walnut, toasted almond and honey all beautifully combined with fresh citrus and nice acidity to play against the intense sweetness, excellent structure and length.
