    Somni Priorat

    Somni means top and is a prestige wine from Portal del Montsant made from the best plots of the Clos del Portal vineyard, which has 15 hectares of very old vineyards on the traditional terraces. It is a very nice dark red wine. The wine is made from Grenache, Syrah and Carignan from the steep, slaty slopes that underlie all great Priorat wines. The aroma offers a classic Priorat nose of cherry, plum, graphite and minerals. The flavour is lightly perfumed and reveals a tremendous fruit concentration and a solid structure that will ensure the wine an excellent ageing potential.

    The nose of the 2014 Somni differs from the rest of the wines here. It's the only one where the oak and the sweet spices are obvious -- cinnamon, vanilla and smoke with some tree bark and ripe cherries. This blend of Cariñena and Syrah feels a lot more mainstream, generously oaked and quite different from the rest. The palate shows abundant, dusty tannins that might require some more time in bottle. There are 6,865 bottles produced.
