2014 El Velado Rioja Bodega Lanzaga Telmo Rodriguez

This is a very beautiful and old vineyard, located 620 metres above sea level near the village of Lanciego in Rioja at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria mountains. Here the Atlantic climate meets the Mediterranean. The vineyard faces southwest and is 80-years-old, and the dominant grape varieties are Tempranillo and Garnacha. They are all bush vines and stand individually and the vineyard is managed according to organic principles. The terroir consists of chalk, limestone, some clay and sand and is full of fossils. The wine ages for 16 months in big oak barrels. The wine has a bright red colour with purple edge, a spicy and blackcurrant bouquet, a long, elegant flavour with a touch of salty minerality at the end. There are only 507 bottles of this rarity!
