    Arnaldo Rivera Barolo Rocche di Castiglione

    Made from selected grapes from the Rocche di Castiglione vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, where the vines grow in a dark soil of clay, sand and limestone on south-east facing slopes at an altitude of 420 metres. After gentle fermentation, the wine is aged in large new French oak barrels for 32 months and 6 months in the bottle. The result is a noble and complex Barolo with a deep ruby red colour, rich red berry and violet aromas with underlying spicy, slightly balsamic and mineral notes. The wine is beautifully harmonious and elegant in the mouth with a velvety tannin structure and vibrant fresh fruit with complex long mineral finish.

Fresh and sleek, the palate is quite tannic but has poise and concentration, cloaking a core of sweet fruit. It's not too oaky and has fine acidity and length. Drinking Window 2020 - 2032.

    Quite a Burgundian nose with sous bois and earthy notes. Good depth and some richness. The relatively elegant tannins support the rather full body well and through to the long, supple finish. With a little more freshness and fruit, this would have rated higher. Drink now or in 2019 and 2020.
