    Rocche dell´Annunziata

    Rocche dell'Annunziata, located in La Morra, is one of the most highly esteemed of all Barolo vineyards. The first mention of this particular vineyard can be documented as far back as the 12th century and it is today considered an unofficial Grand Cru Barolo. The 30-hectare vineyard has many owners, almost on the Burgundian model and is situated 300 metres above sea level with south, south-east and south-west facing slopes. The soil consists of chalky clay with a high proportion of silt. It is precisely this unique soil that is said to be the secret of these iconic barolovines' distinctive perfume, silky smooth character and great elegance.

    The 2014 Barolo Rocche Dell'Annunziata is aged in smaller-format oak, giving it a slightly more constricted feel in both aromatics and tannin profile compared with the straight Rocche. Macerated cherry, hard candy, mint, spice, new leather and licorice notes create a darker, brooding profile. In 2014, the Rocche doesn't quite have the natural stuffing to stand up to the oak. Even so, it is a very pretty, textured Barolo. Time in the glass does wonders for the 2014.2022-2034.
