    Vibo Punta del Viento

    Punta del Viento is a Rhône inspired blend made from Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. The grapes come from Viu Manent's picturesque estate El Olivar near the town of Peralillo in the Colchaguua Valley. The vines are relatively young and are planted on steep slopes. All grapes are hand-harvested in whole clusters and then selected during destemming upon arrival at the winery. Wild yeast is used and the wine is fermented in French oak barrels and then aged for 13 months in 2- and 3-year-old barrels. The wine has a lovely deep red colour with violet edges, complex nose of forest berries, exotic fruits and spices. A full-bodied wine with good, bold fruit, and at the same time fine freshness. Everything rounds off perfectly in a long, soft aftertaste.

    Healthy crimson. Rich, well-integrated nose. Quite racy structure and dry, savoury finish even if the palate entry is pretty sweet. An entertaining wine (I don't think I have ever written that before.)

    The 2013 Vibo Punta del Viento started off a little closed. It is a blend of 71% Garnacha, 16% Monastrell and 13% Syrah -- a Mediterranean blend from the Punta del Viento vineyard. There are notes of hay and straw, esparto grass and other Mediterranean herbs over a core of floral and red berry aromas. The nose takes time to take off, but the palate shows more freshness with fine tannins and a spicy, peppery finish. Ideal with food. Very good value. 15,840 bottles produced.
