    Gewürztraminer Grand Cru Schlossberg Grain Nobles

    Gewürztraminer Grand Cru Schlossberg Selection de Grains Noble Weinbach Made from selected overripe hand-harvested grapes with some Botrytis (noble rot) from old vines in the middle of the slope of the Grand Cru Schlossberg vineyard. The vines on this absolute top vineyard are grown using biodynamic methods and the grapes are fermented with wild yeast in old oak barrels to preserve as much fruit and terroir character as possible. The wine has a very aromatic aroma of honey, quince, dried figs and hints of spice. The wine is creamy and silky smooth in the mouth with great aromatic intensity and complexity. Extremely precise and well-balanced with a pure underlying minerality. Nice, long clean aftertaste.

    The Domaine holds two plots of Gewurztraminer in the middle part of the Schossberg and the 2013 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Schlossberg Sélection de Grains Nobles is the first one tasted by The Wine Advocate. Still lime-green and bright in color, the wine opens very discreet and lemon-fresh on the highly elegant nose. On the palate, this SGN is more Schlossberg than Gewurztraminer, because the mineral soul and great elegance dominate the sheer concentration and sensual sweetness of the fruit. This compact and densely woven wine is firmly structured and full of tension, but also superbly balanced; the finish is salty, stimulating and very long. The wine ended up at 11.3% alcohol and 123.5 grams per liter of residual sugar balanced by 5 grams per liter of total (tartaric) acidity. The aging potential should be immense here.
