2013 Chardonnay Hawk Hill Vineyard Russian River Deloach

The Hawk Hill vineyard, owned by Paul and Vicki Michalczyk, is located in the extreme southwest corner of the Russian River Valley at an old stagecoach stop. The vineyard is situated on a steep south-facing hillside, regularly shrouded in mist and cooled by sea breezes. The grapes struggle to ripen in such cool conditions, but careful viticulture and patience are rewarded with a sumptuous array of aromas and impressive complexity from the slow ripening. Minerality and acidity are preserved in this climate, beautifully complementing the wine's rich nuances. Intense aroma and flavour of citrus, caramel, vanilla and floral and mineral notes. The wine has the right creaminess from the barrel ageing "sur lie", nicely balanced by high acidity. A delicious wine with richness, elegance and freshness in beautiful harmony.
