2013 Barolo Marcenasco Ratti Magnum

The signature wine Marcenasco from the king of Barolo! Renato Ratti is among the most legendary personalities in Barolo. Renato first made the wine in 1965, the same year he revolutionised the approach to wine production in the region. Up until the mid 20th century, Barolo was thought to only taste one way: powerful, bone dry and with a tannic acid so pronounced that it bristled on all sides. However, oenologist Renato Ratti would not settle for that. In 1960, he mapped the Barolo vineyards with the same attention to detail as the monks of medieval Burgundy - in other words, he laid the foundations for the single vineyard approach that now dominates Barolo. The first single vineyard he mapped and highlighted for its unique terroir was "Marcenasco" in the heart-municipality of La Morra, located right in front of the vineyard. This vineyard is since considered as a kind of manifestation of the style revolution of Barolo over to this very tasty, elegant silky and full-bodied style! Marcenasco has over the years obtained up to 97P and ranked #1 on the Wine Enthusiast TOP 100 list. This vintage tastes terrific now, but is bursting with potential and "growth hormones" that will only enhance the experience for years to come! Barolo Marcenasco is characterised by its approachable character, which means the wine is delightful already upon release. The aroma is packed with fruity nuances of blackberry, mocha, truffle and a slight hint of smoke. The flavour is very full-bodied with cascades of ripe fruit and round tannins in the long aftertaste.
