    Gigondas

    The southeastern Gigondas vineyards have a chalky and clayey subsoil and are on average over 50-years-old. The bouquet is almost explosive of black fruit with hints of spices and garrigues, the flavour is very complex with great roundness and ripeness in the fruit, the wine finishes perfectly balanced with rounded tannins.

    A wine that's put on weight since release, the 2012 Gigondas (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault) is a big, rich, concentrated beauty that offers ample dark fruits, peppery herbs, spice and licorice aromas and flavors. I love it's mid-palate, and it has ripe, rounded tannin that allow it to drink nicely today, yet also allow it to age. I'd happily drink bottles anytime over the coming decade.
