2010 Vinsanto Argyros 4 Years Aged Santorini

Vinsanto is usually known from Tuscany in Italy, but Santorini also has a long tradition of this particular sweet wine. Vin Santo means "Holy Wine" and the grapes for the wine are selected and hand-picked before the normal harvest and then hung or left to dry on rush mats. Usually the grapes are sun-dried for 14 days, after which they are pressed and the juice is poured into oak barrels. The barrels are not opened for the next 4 years. This wine is bottled after 4 years, but Argyros also makes much later bottlings. The wine has a deep, golden colour. It has a very delicious, rich and creamy texture, with a concentrated flavour. Serve chilled as an aperitif, with sweet cakes with almonds and vanilla or with mature cheeses. The wine has a great ageing potential.
