2010 Grand Listrac, Listrac Médoc

Grand Listrac is a distinguished Médoc prestige wine. Listrac is an appellation on a par with its more famous neighbours Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien. Listrac has the highest vineyards on the Médoc peninsula and an ideal terroir of gravel and clay/chalky soils to produce classic Médoc wines with ageing potential. Historically, the famous neighbouring municipalities have taken the honours, but when it comes to value-for-money, Listrac is second to none in Médoc. Grand Listrac has been made for the last 70 vintages and is a prestigious wine with several top vintages on its CV. It is "world-famous" in France and a hallmark of quality and stability, which led the French state railways to serve the wine in the restaurant cars of 1st class continuously for 50 years from 1939 to 1989. Only the best grapes from the oldest vines are used and the wine is largely aged in brand new oak barrels. The ruby red wine has a seductive bouquet of ripe black fruit and hints of vanilla. The wine has plenty of juice and power and a finesse that you normally only find in Cru Classé wines.
