    Taurasi Piano di Montevergine

    Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine is made from 100% Aglianico from Feudi di San Gregorio's best vineyard in the Taurasi area. The wine is produced in Riserva quality, which has 18 months of ageing in wooden barrels and 24 months of bottle ageing. The wine offers even greater richness and depth than Feudi's "regular" Taurasi, and the flavour is silky smooth and extremely full-bodied. A wine that shows what southern Italy is capable of.

    Good bright ruby with an inky tinge. The nose began with smoky oak but gained more vibrant notes of blackcurrant, ink and dried flowers with aeration. Sweet and nicely lush in the mouth on entry, then turns slightly tougher in the middle, with flavors of blackcurrant, dark plum and tobacco framed on the back end by an element of minerality. The long, mountingly tannic finish hints at a little residual sugar. I'd cellar this brooding, still- youthful Taurasi for at least another three or four years before popping the cork.
