2007 Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge Guigal

Guigal's wines are not only the best in the Rhône Valley, but some of the finest in the world! No other winery in the world gets such consistently high ratings as Guigal. All of their wines are at the top of their respective categories, whether it's the "regular" Côtes-du-Rhône, or the complex single vineyard wines from Côte-Rôtie. This Côtes-du-Rhône from Guigal is composed of 50% Syrah, 45% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre. The Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes come from the southern part of the Rhône Valley, while the Syrah grapes come from the northern end of the Rhône Valley. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels prior to bottling. This promotes structure and complexity in the wine. Guigal's Côtes-du-Rhône possesses a deep garnet red colour with captivating notes of ripe, dark fruit, red berries, vanilla, wild mushrooms, spices and freshly ground pepper. The flavour is juicy and powerful with lots of appetising fruit, and lovely ripe tannins in the long finish. A fabulous Côtes-du-Rhône that surpasses its "ordinary" classification by dimensions. The wine has a great ageing potential, and will develop with further cellaring. The wine has previously been voted "Best Value" in Wine Spectator.
