2001 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2. Cru Pauillac

This wonderful château is next door to the famous Premier Cru Cru Château Latour. The location at the southern end of Pauillac, where the vineyards are located on the border of the municipality of Saint-Julien, gives the wine an incredible finesse and elegance. It has the characteristic charm and softness of Saint-Julien, while having the same durability and power that characterise the best Pauillac wines. In 1997 only 40% of the harvest was used for le Grand Vin - the rest had to be used for the second wine "Reserve de la Comtesse". The aroma is invitingly packed with sweet nuances of cherry, mocha and vanilla, followed in the flavour by ripe fruit and great, great depth. A breathtaking Pauillac that will already be a huge experience on release.
