2015 Pàtrimo Merlot Campania Rosso Feudi di San Gregorio

This is really concentrated stuff with a major, grainy-tannin structure that might be too much for some, but suggests to us that this has serious aging potential. In spite of this and the generous alcoholic content, the finish is rather polished. Drink in 2019.

This is a proud protagonist of Vino Italiano. The 2015 Pàtrimo is a unique expression of Merlot that merits special attention in this excellent vintage. This is one of the finest editions ever produced, and I say that based on the extreme richness, complexity and finesse that unwraps before your eyes and taste buds. Make no mistake, this is a Big wine with a capital B. Its aromas of blackberry, spice and dark leather are delivered with super-sized exuberance and opulence. Fully saturated purple-ruby. Aromas of ripe black cherry, coffee and cocoa. Big, rich and dense, offering sweet but lively flavors of coffee, cocoa and black currants. The finish is long and fine-grained. This strikes me as a much more complete, better balanced wine than some over-the-top and frankly rapidly palate-fatiguing Patrimo wines of years past. And allow me to say that the wine is good enough that it does not need the ridiculously heavy bottle it is placed in.
