2014 Riesling Cuvée Colette Domaine Weinbach

Formerly named Cuvée Catherine, the 2014 Riesling Cuvée Colette is a tribute to Cathérine's mother Colette, who lead Domaine Weinbach to one of the most prestigious white wine producers in France. Aged 87, Colette Faller died earlier this year just nine months after her younger daughter Laurence. The wine is sourced from old vines on the sandy bottom of the Schlossberg Grand Cru and was bottled June 2015. There are clear and lemon-fresh fruit aromas on the quite intense and concentrated nose, which displays a flavor of candied lemons. Highly elegant on the palate, the wine starts round, intense and almost rich, but is also stunningly precise. The finish, however, is straight and very mineral, and reveals a stunning purity and a salty aftertaste with some floral and herbal aromas. This is a complex and age-worthy wine on 1er Cru level with a minerality that is never austere.
