2010 Barolo Terlo Luigi Einaudi

The 2010 Barolo Terlo bursts from the glass with gorgeous energy and vibrancy. Freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed rocks and sweet red berries. This is one of the more appealing and accessible 2010 Barolos readers will find for near and medium-term enjoyment. Much of that comes from a relatively short period of vinification (15-16 days), with no post-fermentation macerations, a choice that emphasizes fruit and soft tannins. Still this is a serious wine. Hints of leather, tobacco and dried flowers add complexity on the finish. 2016 - 2030.

The 2010 Barolo Terlo is a tempered and managed expression with just enough cherry and wild fruit intensity to keep your interest. That said, the wine also shows a very pretty evolution in the glass and peels back, layer after layer, with dark fruit, cola and spice. What I found of particular interest in the 2010 expression is the delicate mineral note of brimstone and lead pencil that so elegantly frames the long finish. Drink: 2016- 2026.

Aromas of forest floor, leather, espresso, spice and grilled herbs lead the nose. The palate offers toasted oak, roasted coffee bean, dried sage, raw red cherry and licorice alongside astringent tannins that need time to integrate fully. Drink after 2018.

A touch of oak adds vanilla and resin accents to the cherry, floral and porcino flavors, in addition to compounding the tannins, which need time to integrate with the elegant frame and bright appeal. Best from 2017 through 2028. 591 cases made. -BS.
