Wild Sauvignon Blanc

‘Still fairly austere with pronounced struck flint character. Quite fleshy with good, ripe and fruity acidity. Approachable now but with plenty of cellaring potential.’

It is beautifully fragrant on the nose showing lemongrass, grapefruit, almond and beeswax characters. The palate is powerful and flavoursome with excellent vibrancy and juicy fruit intensity. The wine is punchy and expressive displaying brilliant structure and length. At its best: now to 2025.

A beautifully judged, barrel- fermented sauvignon that's really complex but tightly integrated. It shows attractive lemons, limes and grapefruit as well as ripe peaches and green mangoes across some gently waxy, lanolin-like notes and dried grass. The oak is subdued and discreet, adding a neat, spicy and gently meaty savory thread. There's a wealth of flesh and weight below, as handy oak spices run through some crisp yet concentrated melon and papaya with a wash of lime juice. Great acidity, a smooth and supple texture and a succulent and flavorsome finish. Gently creamy. Drink now.

The 2014 Wild Sauvignon has evolved into a lovely array of lemongrass, lime leaves and coriander seed hints over a core of grapefruit and dried herbs. Medium- bodied, the palate has a beautiful satiny texture with elegant herbal flavors and a long, lively finish.

(fermented in mostly old French oak barriques with wild yeasts; roughly two-thirds of this wine went through malolactic fermentation): Fresh scents of lemon verbena tea, menthol and smoke. Boasts terrific clarity, energy and cut to its flavors of tangy citrus fruits, white stone fruits and minerals, along with a complicating tropical fruit element. Sappy, dense Sauvignon Blanc with terrific underlying structure. This wine was bottled in November of 2015 following nearly a year in barrel and several months in tank. The Wild Sauvignon is routinely slightly higher in alcohol and lower in acidity than Judd's stainless steel version.

92 point

Not the easiest vintage in Marlborough, this wine stands out as notable achievement. It's aromas are slightly feral, adding a funky edge. To scents of smoke and grilled white nectarines. The silky texture stands out, as does the long citrusy finish outlined by hints of pencil shavings.

91 point

The lemon-lime and lemongrass notes are precise, set on a light and supple body. Peppery, fresh herb accents linger on the finish, where the flavors crescendo and a lemon verbena detail sings out. Drink now.
