2013 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris Conterno Fantino

The 2013 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris is a beautiful wine that is built for the ages. It will show its best results in ten years or more from now. This is an intriguing expression with impressive depth, concentration, elegance and power. The Vigna del Gris parcel (slightly larger than one hectare) was purchased in 1989, and the first vintage to be released in 1994 was made in the estate's new winery. The vines were first planted in 1969 and are 40 years old, on average. This wine presents firm, structured tannins that make the wine inaccessible now, but that will carry it forward during its aging process. 2018 - 2035.

The 2013 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris is another super-intriguing Barolo from Conterno-Fantino. Sweet, floral aromatics meld into a core of bright red stone fruit, plum, mint and white pepper. As usual, the aromatics are quite lifted, but in the last few years, the tannins from this site have shown a bit more sweetness. As always, though, the Vigna del Gris is the most slender and feminine of the Conterno- Fantino Barolos.

Bright aromas of sliced strawberries and orange peel follow through to a full body, round and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Just some light austerity makes it nice. Drink or hold.

A muscular style delivering plum and cherry notes shaded by oak spice accents, with tobacco and tea elements emerging as this winds down on the beefy finish. The new oak aspects become more integrated with air, so decant if broaching in the near term. Best from 2022 through 2036. 500 cases made.
