2015 Vougeot Clos du Prieure Monopole Rouge La Vougeraie Magnum

An overtly floral-suffused nose is surprisingly perfumed with its cool, pure and elegant red berry fruit, violet and sandalwood scents. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the delineated and caressing middle weight flavors that deliver fine length on the delicious and balanced finish.

The 2015 Vougeot 1er Cru Clos du Prieuré comes from the domaine's two hectares of vine located just in front of the river. It comes across more tertiary and backward on the nose, perhaps even surly after the brightness of the Pommard Les Petits Noizons. The palate is full of crunchy red berry fruit, very well balanced with just a touch of tangy marmalade on the back palate, perhaps even some confit-like fruit here, with moderate length in the mouth. Probably earlier-drinking than Vougeraie's other 2015s, enjoy this over the next 7-9 years.

Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of redcurrant, spices and earth. Surprisingly flavorful wine, showing good mineral energy and a subtle sweetness to its red berry and spice flavors. The dusty tannins are refined and not at all dry. Pierre Vincent noted that the Côte de Nuits was more affected by drought stress than the Côte de Beaune, especially Vougeot, Chambolle- Musigny and Bonnes-Mares, but this wine nonetheless shows a juicy quality.
