2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1. Cru Les Combettes Henri Boillot

This is slightly riper with the same lovely sense of elegance to the admirably pure aromas of pear, white flowers, tangerine and a hint of wood. There is unusually good energy to the equally pure medium-bodied and caressing flavors that culminate in a strikingly long finish that is at once classy and powerful. This is blessed with fine levels of dry extract and should drink well young but age well too.

The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes offers up notes of hazelnut, wheat toast, nutmeg and yellow orchard fruit; the prelude to a ripe, textural wine which lacks a bit of depth and tension to support its dramatic attack. In 2015, this is not quite as successful as the Perrières, Pucelles or Clos de la Mouchère-though it should offer plenty of near-term appeal in its lavish, open-knit style. Subdued musky aromas of stone fruits and hazelnut. A fat, oily bomb of stone fruits on the palate, but this thick, silky wine is framed and lifted on the very long back end by dusty stone.
