2013 Moganazzi Volta Sciara Etna Rosso Le Vigne di Eli

Slightly bolder in color and concentration (as compared to the Etna Rosso Pignatuni), the 2013 Etna Rosso Moganazzi Volta Sciara is a delightful wine with rich tones and a generous bouquet. The wine exhibits a softer, more fleshed out personality without the sharp austerity you usually get with Etna reds. In fact, the wine exhibits a mellow personality despite being shaped by one of the most violent volcanic wine territories on the planet. That juxtaposition comes as a startling, but delightful surprise. Firm lines of ash, smoke, died fruit and pressed rose fuel a long and flavorful finish.

Bright, dark red. Clean, pure aromas of red cherry, violet and tar with a bright mineral overlay. Rich, dense and juicy, offering noteworthy sweetness and size to its tactile red cherry and raspberry flavors. Finishes very long and minerally. These Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio vines were planted in the 1950s at about 650 meters, on very loose ash-rich soils.

Rich and creamy, with mocha and spice accents and flavors of plumped cherry, smoke and plum cake. Well-knit and fresh, presenting a grippy finish. Drink now through 2023. 233 cases made.
