2011 Montevetrano Colli di Salerno Campania

This is a racy and beautiful red with spices, dark fruits and a smoky, light vanilla undertone. It's full-bodied but super polished. Very fine tannins. Flavors go on for minutes. A beauty now but much better in 2015 when the tannins soften. A blend of merlot and aglianico.

Saturated medium-red. Tangy red cherry and raspberry aromas are complicated by expressive musky soil tones and fresh flowers. Sweet, fruity and vibrant, with flavors of red cherry, black pepper and dried flowers complicated by a saline nuance. Finishes very long and brisk, with excellent grip and fine-grained tannins. This is one of the best Montevetrano wines in many years, with really lovely, juicy energy. Perhaps having included a little more aglianico than usual has helped?

Dark ruby-red. Vibrant but reticent aromas of dark berries, cedar, cola, mint, sweet spices and underbrush. Concentrated and fine-grained, with harmonious acidity providing lift to the oak-influenced flavors of dark berries, licorice and herbs. This Montevetrano offers early appeal but also has the capacity for a leisurely evolution in bottle.

This dark, compact red boasts cassis, blackberry reduction, cedar and grilled herb notes on a full frame, with assertive woodsy tannins marking the spicy finish. Best from 2014 through 2020. 2,500 cases made.
